Tips to Beat the Holiday Sugar Rush

Before you know it, sugar and sweets are going to be lining the table at every event and gathering that you go to. The last few months of the year are like a cruel ending to your hard work that you’ve done for your health and body. First, Halloween followed by Thanksgiving…not to be up shown by Christmas and then last but not least, New Years. While they are all wonderful holidays, they all seem to focus on food! And lots of it!

If you are seeking a few tips to beat the holiday sugar rush, here are some suggestions on how you can overcome it with ease!

Tips to Beat the Holiday Sugar Rush

  • Just say no.

I know, I know. Easier said than done, right? But in all reality, it gets easier every time. If you stop and think about how much hard work you have put into eating healthy all year, you’ll want to say “no” to not undo everything that you’ve accomplished. Say “no”. Practice saying “no” in front of a mirror if you need to. Stay strong, it works!

  • Pack your own sweet treats for gatherings.

Who says that you can’t bring your own sweet treats to the events and parties? Think of it as a way to join in on the fun and still stay on track with your healthy eating. Just pack up your own “treat” and let the hostess know that you’re trying hard to stay on track and to stay away from the processed sugars. Most won’t have any issue with it, and you’ll probably even have several people comment on how awesome it is that you’re even doing that!

  • Choose your battles.

Sometimes, having a sweet treat here and there isn’t all that bad. You just need to decide when you want that treat to happen, and you also need to let yourself know that you aren’t going to snowball and jump into consuming sugary treat after sugary treat. Will a cookie or a piece of cake break your diet? No. But 15 cookies and an entire cake might!

  • Most importantly, love yourself and be kind to yourself!

If you have a piece of chocolate or cake or cookie or “whatever”, be kind to yourself! It’s going to be okay! Part of the fun of the holidays is to dive in and enjoy a few treats. If you continuously beat yourself up for indulging a bit, you’re taking the fun out of it completely!

This holiday season, you can beat the holiday sugar rush! Implement a few of the suggestions above and you’ll find that you will get through the holidays and events with ease!

During my diet, I would pick one “bad” dish or drink and that gave me the courage to keep on going through the holiday dinners/get-togethers

I don’t have a sweet tooth. Savory is what draws me in. All things in moderation though. Happy holidays!

If I let myself have a cheat day then im more likely to stick to my diet all the other days. I let myself have a sweet treat on my cheat days.

I’m not much into desserts so thankfully holidays foods aren’t much of a problem.

I LOVE fudge, I limit my self to 1-2 pieces at Christmas time, something to look forward to all year long.

Last year I was on a diet and this year I’m going to have to be diligent about maintaining my 65 pound weight loss. I usually pick one splurge thing and have a little of it.

I don’t enjoy calling it a diet, because that’s when I fail. But I am changing my eating lifestyle. I’ve been very worried about the holidays. That’s when I fell off last year. I was just going to give myself one day to not be conscious of what I was eating. It turned into months lol. I love the bring your own treats tips. So helpful.

I have the sweet tooth! And it almost kills me not to have them. IF I can get through 2 weeks I am off the sweet but let me screw up and have bite of sweet stuff and I am lost.

My sister in law would rather have another piece of turkey or something else off the table if she has room
